Needs + challenges
Link Logistics International needed a purpose-built cold storage facility within the Hobart Airport Freight Precinct to support its freight forwarding operation and expand capacity for temperature-controlled storage. With the existing business operating nearby, the project needed to be practical, efficient, and delivered with minimal disruption.
The facility required specialised freezer capability, including storage down to -50°C, supported by an in-ground dock, dual access site layout, compliant amenities, and functional spaces that could support long-term growth. The build also required close coordination with Degree C to ensure the refrigeration systems were integrated into the facility correctly.
Key challenges included:
-
Designing a facility around Link Logistics’ freight forwarding and cold storage requirements.
-
Delivering specialised -20°C and -50°C freezer areas.
-
Working in conjunction with Degree C to coordinate the refrigeration requirements.
-
Integrating an in-ground dock to support efficient loading and logistics movements.
-
Coordinating dual site access within the Hobart Airport Freight Precinct.
-
Meeting the client’s preferred program without compromising quality or functionality.
Success made simple
Bison Constructions worked with Link Logistics from early planning through to delivery, creating a clear program and maintaining regular communication throughout the build. Working alongside Degree C, Bison coordinated the construction requirements around the specialist refrigeration systems, helping bring the cold storage facility together as a practical, operational outcome.
The completed facility features:
-
Dedicated -20°C and -50°C freezer storage areas.
-
Specialist refrigeration systems delivered in conjunction with Degree C.
-
In-ground dock for efficient freight handling.
-
Dual access site layout to improve vehicle movement and operational flow.
-
Integrated airlock, ante-room, inspection, office, amenities, and canopy spaces.
