ALLAN HOWARD

Elevating equine comfort

Needs + challenges

Allan and Debbie Howard sought to create a custom-built horse arena in Longford, Tasmania, for their own personal use. The facility needed to accommodate a range of equine activities, including training and competitions, while providing ample space and comfort for both horses and riders. The project required a large, clear-span arena with sufficient space for riding, as well as additional facilities such as a mezzanine for viewing, a kitchenette, and modern bathroom amenities. The challenge was to complete the build efficiently, within the desired timeline, and to create a facility that would meet the evolving needs of both the Howards and the growing demand from the local equestrian community.

Success made simple

The Howards were extremely satisfied with their decision to work with Bison Constructions. The team’s previous experience working with Bison gave them confidence in the process, and they appreciated the seamless communication throughout. Despite being advised that the build would take three months, Bison delivered the project on time—exactly as promised. The arena, measuring 80m by 40m, included a mezzanine viewing area, a kitchenette, and bathrooms, offering both functionality and comfort. Allan and Debbie praised the team for the exceptional construction quality, which combined strength, durability, and modern aesthetics. The entire project was completed to a high standard, allowing the Howards to enjoy their new arena and share it with the growing equestrian community with minimal disruption.

A premium rural multipurpose horse arena

    Needs + Challenges

The Kemp family had a vision of creating a top-tier equestrian facility on their property, including a covered horse arena that would allow them to ride and train year-round, regardless of weather conditions. This ambitious project came with some significant challenges. The site was located on steep ground, with solid rock present at the back end of the arena, creating difficulties during excavation. Additionally, the area was somewhat constrained, requiring careful planning to fit the structure without disrupting existing infrastructure, including a pre-existing horse arena and nearby property features. The Kemp family also wanted the arena to be close to their home for convenience while avoiding the hassle of traveling far to find a suitable indoor riding space.

    Success made Simple

Bison Constructions worked closely with the Kemp family to bring this vision to life. Despite the challenging terrain and limited space, the team efficiently overcame obstacles to deliver the perfect solution. The team’s expertise and attention to detail ensured that the project was completed smoothly, even with the need to lift some components in multiple stages due to access restrictions and the use of only one crane.

The new covered arena, strategically placed close to the Kemp family’s home, now provides a sheltered space for training and riding year-round, protecting both riders and horses from the elements. The addition of a canopy on the side of the arena worked seamlessly, thanks to Bison’s ability to accommodate unique design requirements.

The Kemp family was extremely pleased with the entire process. The construction was organized and executed with remarkable precision, and the entire team was impressed by Bison’s commitment to ensuring everything arrived on-site well-prepared.

    The results

  • Year-Round Use: The covered arena allows for year-round riding and training, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Increased Convenience: The arena’s proximity to the family home eliminates the need to travel long distances for indoor riding.
  • Expanded Opportunities: The arena now hosts clinics and provides a valuable space for local riders
  • Efficient Construction: Bison overcame site challenges and completed the project seamlessly and on schedule.
